1566. BOOK: (MEDICINE). ANAZARBIC GODCORIDES, PEDACE: ABOUT MEDICINAL MATTER, AND MORTIFYING POISONS, TRANSLATED FROM THE GREEK LANGUAGE BY ANDRES DE LAGUNA. Salamanca: Imp. Mathias Gast, 1566. Cleaned copy and with some professional restoration. Dioscorides was a famous physician who practiced during the time of Nero. Materia Medica is the precursor of modern pharmacopoeia. The text describes some 600 medicinal plants, including the mandrake, some 90 minerals and about 30 substances of animal origin. Unlike other classical works, this book had a huge diffusion in the Middle Ages both in its original Greek and in other languages, such as Latin and Arabic, one of the first editions in Spanish is presented here.
