15th C. Thai Si Satchanalai Glazed Pottery Jar

Southeast Asia, Thailand, Si Satchanalai culture, Sukhothai Period, ca. 15th to 16th century CE. A gorgeous piriform pottery jar covered in a thick, mottled brown glaze with deep red and light brown speckles. The bottom register of the vessel is left unglazed and highlights its earthy buffware surface. The globular base is set on a petite discoidal foot with a flat bottom. The mouth is circular, and its interior portion is sloped leading down into a pinhole-like opening. This vessel has aged with grace having been wonderfully preserved through time. Size: 5.5" W x 7.5" H (14 cm x 19 cm)

Provenance: ex-Ashland University Museum, Ashland, Ohio, USA, donated to Ashland University between July 1994 to December 1998

Condition Report: Repair to one lengthy fissure on one side, with restoration to roughly 2" patch of lower body wall, with resurfacing and overpainting along new material and break lines. Minor chips to rim. Nice sheen to glazed surface. Presents extremely well!
