15thC Laos Bronze Buddha- Large, Unique Joyful Folk-Style
Fifteenth-century Lao Buddha in a delightful Lanna(Northern Thailand)/Laos folk style. Loss of original base and finial, plus one ear mostly replaced. Larger than his 15-inch height (17 inches on custom base ) He has a very unique mouth-I've seen this before on some other folk-style pieces. It is consistent with him being an authentic period piece. Much of the patina is exquisite- Thai Buddha collectors call this special type of patina found in some quality Northern Thai pieces "jade green" patina. I comes from the specific metal alloy used to make the Buddha to begin with-the green slowly comes out of the metal over time, and is impossible to fake.
