An exceedingly rare printing of Isocrates’ ‘Orations and Letters’. Isocrates was a 4th-century BC Greek orator and rhetorician, whose philosophical thought helped influence various Panegyrics of the Renaissance. His orations and letters were written on a variety of topics:

to influence various rulers on how to lead their kingdom

on rulers of Salamis on Cyprus

on importance of good education

on living in peace with others

This 1621 edition is unique in that it includes the original Greek text with the Latin translation directly under each line of Greek. It also, like many similar editions, includes Plutarch’s ‘Life of Isocrates’.
