Ogier Ghislain de Busbecq was a 16th-century Flemish author who is best known for his ambassador service to the Ottoman Empire. While there, he wrote what would become his most famous work – a series of letters which is some of the world’s earliest pieces of travel literature. These letters describe his experiences living in Constantinople, Turkish politics, local flora, fauna, and one of the only published references to the Crimean Gothic language.
This 1633 edition is the first Elzevier edition, published in Leiden.
