1671 William LAUD Cyprianus Anglicus England Canterbury
1671 William LAUD Cyprianus Anglicus England Canterbury Heylyn Prynne FOLIO
Peter Heylyns Cyprianus Anglicus is a strong defense of William Laud against William Prynnes Canterburies Doome. Prynne was critical of Laud. Even though King Charles I admitted that he put too much trust in Laud, and Lauds actions helped create divisions in the Church, Heylyn still came to the defense of Laud.
Most known for his Cosmographia, Peter Heylyn writes this defense of Laud against Prynnes and Lauds execution. This account of Lauds life and work depicts Lauds attempt to enforce conformity within the Church of England, but the Kings decrees and commands did little to help the church, in fact, it created more of a divide. This work serves as a defense not only for Laud, but for the Kings actions and policies as well.
