In two parts, with general title and two separate titles (one for the "Cure" and another for "Arbor Vitae.") [40], 156, [6], 108, [10] pp., including final ad leaf. Early full calf. ************ First edition in English of "De retardatione accidentium senectutis," a 13th century work which contains unusual recipes and diets believed to maintain youth. The second work found herein is concerning the Tree of Life from the Garden of Eden; the author, Duarte Madeiro Arraiz, was the physician of King John IV, King of Portugal. Here, he writes "concerning the Qualities of that Wood or Tree of Life in the Earthly Paradise, which either prolonged Life to Eternity, or at least a very long Time...."
Condition Report: Front hinge worn as are other extremities, upper corners chipped/rounded. Rear endpaper detached, upper margins softened and with chipping occasionally removing parts of headlines and/or page numbers (worse at front), upper margins with faint staining, occasional light foxing.
