1685. BOOK: (ENGRAVING). BLONDEAU, JACOBI; RUBEIS, IACOBI: CHRONOLOGIA SUMMOR. ROM. PONTIFICUM, IN QUA HABENTUR VERAE... Antuerpiae: Ioannis Iacobi de Rubeis, 1685. Big sheet, landscape. 16 double plates with the mandorla portraits of the popes from St. Peter's to Innocent XII The last large frieze, presided over by a cardinal's coat of arms with six eight-pointed stars, is followed by two portraits of Clement XI that do not belong to the same work but to the same engraver. There follows a plate with a decorative frieze in which three angels carry the papal miter, the keys to heaven and some phylacteries, next to it a cartouche. EFFIGIES ROMANORUM IMPERATORUM EX ANTIQUIS NUMISMATIBUS. QUAE IN THESAURUS CHRISTINAE REGINAE ADSERVANTUR DELINEATAE, IN SERIEM CHRONOLOGICAM DISPOSITAE, CUM NOMINIBUS... It consists of 14 plates with the portraits of each of the Roman emperors, made from the images on the coins. At the end of the last plate there is a frieze with a text presided over by an eagle holding the text between its claws, which at the end reads: Romae, 1681, engravings made by Iacobi de Rubeis and Petro Aquila. [Next:] CHRONOLOGICAL AND IMAGE SERIES REGU[M] HISPANIAE AB ATAULPHO AD CAROLUM II... 10 plates. The last two have a large frieze decorated with the text engraved on a plate with the date 1685. This chronology of the kings of Spain was paid for by the viceroy of Naples, Gaspar de Haro y Guzmán (as stated at the end of the work), the drawings made by the painter Ciro Ferri and engravings by Jacques Blondeau. The preparation of this chronology highlights the importance the monarchy gave to its uninterrupted continuity. Printed on thick, high quality paper. Exlibris of the Marquis de Monteynard. Three works enc. in one volume, bound in full leather, with nerves, curdled loin. Some scratches on the plans. Three monumental works that contain intaglio engravings by Iacobi Rubeis; each of them is rare in trade, all three together extraordinarily rare.
