Jeanne-Michelle de Pringy was a 17th-century French novelist who is remembered for her works which empowered women and educated women on the importance of self-esteem. In 1685, Pringy wrote ‘The Different Characters of Love’ – a book that inspired her most popular work ‘The Different Characters of Women’. These two works have been described by ‘Journal des Scientists’ as

“marked with principal features to which woman can recognize, defects they have, or the virtues they ought to have”.

These works include ‘self-help’ for women on a variety of topics including economics, modesty, science, and the work force.

This 1694 printing features both works ‘Characters of Love’ and ‘Characters of Women’, published in the same year as ‘Women’ was first printed.
