16th C. Islamic Illuminated Page Text (2 pgs)

Near East, Islamic, ca. 16th to 18th century CE. A pair of pages from an Islamic text, perhaps from the Koran (Quran) or a work of poetry. One presents vivid Arabic text in elegant black script with rectangular motifs highlighted with red rosettes painted against gold leaf grounds and surrounded by blue borders, a central vertical column of green and pink triangular motifs also painted against a gold leaf ground, and finally a linear border of gold leaf, blue, and red hues. The text is ruled in 12 lines. On the verso of the frame is an old note that reads, "Manuscript Persian fin 16 siecle - 400." The other example presents 17 lines of text, two written in a gold hue, and with a border of gold and blue hues surrounding the composition. On the verso of its frame is an old note that reads, "Manuscript Persian du fin 16 siecle - 200." Two lovely handwritten texts framed under glass. Size: pages 8.75" L x 4.75" W (22.2 cm x 12.1 cm); 11.375" L x 8.625" W (28.9 cm x 21.9 cm) framed

Provenance: Estate of R. Pearson, Denver, Colorado, USA; Mr. Pearson's collection was amassed from the mid 20th century until his death.
