1700 Idolatry & Pagans BIBLE History Jews Gentiles Vossius De Theologia Gentili

Gerardus Vossius was a 16th-century Dutch classical theologian known for being one of the first to treat theological dogmas and non-Christian religions from a historical point of view, rather than the more accepted theological. His works of rhetoric were widely popular and were used as textbooks during and after his life. He followed Aristotelian thought and was influenced, not only by Aristotle, but my Cicero and other ancient philosophers.

This 1700 edition of Vossius’s “De Theologia Gentili” was published in Amsterdam by Blaue. This work was Vossius’s commentary on the origins and rise of idolatry throughout history. It gives glimpses into Gentile theologies followed in the Bible.
