Glossarium ad Scriptores Mediae et Infimae Latinitatis.
Frankfurt am Main: Zunneriana, 1710.
Text in Latin.
Three volumes.
Glossary of terms, shedding light on developments in Latin vocabulary in the Middle Ages, and the influences absorbed from "barbaric" languages; second, expanded edition of the influential work by the renowned French philologist and historian Charles du Fresne, sieur Du Cange (1610-1688).
The significance of this work, derived from a wide variety of sources, lies in the historical distinction it draws between Classical Latin and later versions of the language that reflect modifications that appear under the Byzantine Empire and subsequently in the medieval period.
The research conducted for this composition earned Du Cange a reputation as a founding father in the field of historical linguistics.
