1716 1ed Hebrew Bible Grammar by Masclef Masoretic text
1716 1ed Hebrew Bible Grammar by Masclef Masoretic text Jewish Judaica Hebraica
François Masclef was a 17th-century French Hebrew priest who developed notable methods for teaching Hebrew grammar. He highly valued the use of the Masoretic text – the traditional Hebrew of the Jewish Bible. In his book 1716 ‘Grammatica Hebraica’, Masclef proposed variations in Hebrew pronunciations, much of which was thought to be arbitrary and a unnecessary break in Jewish tradition. This book received tremendous criticism, so much so, that the controversy surrounding it made it popular in and out of Jewish circles until the end of the 18th-century.
This rare first edition was published in Paris by Collombat and utilizes Latin and Hebrew texts throughout.
