1761 Folard War Commentaries Frederick the Great Prussia Seven Years’ War

Jean-Charles de Folard was a French military author who is best known for his treatise and commentary on Polybius. In 1753, Folard wrote notes and observations on Thullier’s ‘Polybius’, who used Polybius’s ‘Histories’ as a basis for describing French military tactics. Folard’s ‘Commentaries’ is an interesting pairing of Ancient Greek and Roman history and 18th-century French military tactics.

This particular work, published in 1761, was compiled by Frederick the Great of Prussia at the height of the Seven Years’ War. It features impressive folding engravings depicting various defensive strategies, battle tactics and troop movements, siege weapons, and castles. An impressive work!
