1762 George III William Cripps Sterling Silver Coffee Pot

A finely made sterling silver coffee pot, assayed for London and dated 1762, the second year in the reign of King George III.
Of the usual elegant form, the coffee pot is adorned with scrolling floral patterns. At the front, there is an armorial crest of a bunch of grapes; on the reverse, in the same area, there is a basket of flowers. The spout is gadrooned and the lid has been finished with an acorn finial.
The ‘WC’ is for Williams Cripps, a London silversmith who was active during the middle decades of the 18th century. A trio of old initials, reading ‘CTA’, can be seen on the underside of the coffee pot, these are most likely those of a former owner.
The coffee pot is fine condition, the handle is sturdy, as are the hinges on the lid. There is a small area of restoration to the silver on the front of the coffee pot, near the spout.
