1778 DATED REVOLUTIONARY WAR POWDER HORN.

This horn measures about 14" overall and has a green hue. The spout section is cone shaped and the wooden plug is flat. The plug has a pewter inlaid plaque with relief date and initials "1778 / AV / H". The plaque is retained in the top corners with small hand-forged nails. There is a large blacksmith forged loop in the butt for carrying strap attachment. CONDITION: There is 1 small chip missing at the opening of the spout and a few scattered areas of insect damage, although none go entirely through. There are some losses and cracking along the base surrounding the plug. Pewter plaque and plug are very good and retain a dry patina. DMG Condition: Dimensions: Length: 14".
