1787. BOOK: (ARCHITECTURE). VITRUBIO: THE TEN BOOKS OF ARCHITECTURE. Translated from Latin and commented by Don Joseph Ortíz y Sanz. Madrid: at the Royal Printing Office, 1787. Great paper. 2 h. + XXVIII + 277 p. + 1 h.+ 56 slides. The plates drawn by J. Ortiz and engraved by J. Fabregat, M. Brand and J. Asensio. Enc. in Spanish paste, tejuelo, somewhat grazed edges, pinned cuts. Good specimen, with wide margins and clean paper that presents only sporadically light rust spots in the margins (in few leaves). A magnificent edition produced by the Royal Printing Office, which constitutes a fundamental contribution to the canonical discourse of architecture, seeking to respond to the need, shared by many architects and theorists of the San Fernando Royal Academy of Fine Arts, to find a method of formalising and codifying the project and architectural language, giving Vitruvius' text the value of universal laws of architecture, extrapolating it to the specific moment in which it was created.
