1789 History United States Indians American Revolution Constitution War Gordon

The Rev. William Gordon came to America in 1770 to serve as pastor of the Third Congregational Church in Roxbury, MA, and became a strong supporter of the patriot cause. According to Larned,

“he was throughout the Revolution a spectator close at hand of many important events, and the associate of many of the chief patriots. Later scholarship has shown that a good part of Gordon's history was taken from the ‘Annual Register.’"

“The History of the Rise…United States of America” is an impressive, thorough, and detailed account of America.

"First full-scale history of this war by an American; to its preparation Jefferson contributed some aid" - Howes.

"Gordon is deservedly reckoned as the most impartial and reliable of the numerous historians of the American Revolution" - Sabin.

This first American edition of volume 3 includes various battles with Indians, Spanish, French, British, and local rebels against the American Colonial military with the conclusion of the American revolution and George Washington’s handing of the peace treaty between America and Great Britain to Congress.
