1789 Japanese Woodblock Encyclopedia Chinese Education Illustrated Edo Kanji

In the book "Introduction to Supplementary Education", is an illustrated encyclopedia designed to teach children the names and pronunciation in Japanese and Chinese of a wide range of things such as the human body, tools, clothes, animals, and more, which initiated a new wave of illustrated books in the Edo era! The items are written with their name written in kanji with each side of the kanji, having the pronunciation written in kana and the explanation in Japanese and Chinese written below. The explanation is written on the picture and was changed to Japanese in "Introduction to Supplementary Education".

This rare 1789 edition of volumes 10 through 14 edited by Nakamura Tekisai is written in a column handwritten format with furigana usage for easier reading and is complete with illustrations by Shimokōbe Shūsui throughout of outdoor tools, indoor items, land animals, and birds of the air!
