This is a superb, slightly uncommon double page map of the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean including Florida, Central America and the northern tip of South America.Aside from the expected topographical, river, lake and settlement detail, the map includes several Indian place names in Louisiana and Florida. The Mississippi River is boldly shown, New Orleans is missing and Florida is shown with mountains in its center. The routes of the Spanish galleons are prominently noted. The map is decorated with a compass rose and a title cartouche held aloft by putti.From Elwe's monumental 'Atlas'.
