1793 ❧ BODONI. LONGUS (PSEUDO-LONGINUS). ΔΙΟΝΥΣΙΟΥ ΛΟΓΓΙΝΟΥ ΠΕΡΙ ΥΨΟΥΣ - Dionysii Longini De Sublimitate. Parma: In Aedibus Palatinis [Palazzo Ducale], Typis Bodonianis, 1793 Large folio (422 x 287 mm). Text in ancient Greek with accompanying Latin parallel/critical commentary. Title soiled, some staining. Contemporary mottled calf, covers panelled with multiple rolls, forming a darker brown frame with leafy spray corner pieces, spine lettered and decorated in gilt. Rebacked with original spine retained. Extremities rubbed. LARGE PAPER (IMPERIAL FOLIO) COPY. While the standard Quarto printing of Bodoni's 1793 De Sublimitate remains highly prized, this extraordinary Imperial Folio issue represents an entirely distinct tier of late 18th-century luxury. Measuring a massive 422 x 287 mm, the volume was produced by Bodoni in extremely limited quantities-primarily as diplomatic presentations for heads of state, members of the Bourbon court at Parma, and international patrons like King Charles IV of Spain. Brunet III, 1152. For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com For further information about this lot please visit the lot listing
