1796 10C JR-1 MS

[ translate ]

1796 10C JR-1, R.3, Fine 15 PCGS. Although silver dollars, half dollars, and half dimes were struck in both 1794 and 1795, the dime and quarter denominations had to wait until 1796 to be coined at the fledgling U.S. Mint. The 1796 dime mintage was a mere 22,135 pieces, a paltry production relative to cent mintages that year. Seven die pairs are known, but the present lot can be attributed at a glance due to the cud below star 1. Partial wing plumage is present, and the legends are bold. The silver-gray surfaces are minimally marked save for a small dig beneath the T in LIBERTY. HID10510052018 © 2024 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
