Benjamin Franklin’s famous ‘Autobiography!’ This book is often considered Franklin’s best-known book and is an important part of Americana. Originally known as ‘Memoirs’ by Franklin himself, ‘Autobiography’ covers each aspect of Franklin’s life including his studies in French, various letters he wrote while in Paris, the progress of his philosophies and experiments on electricity.

According to the Grolier American 100, Franklin’s ‘Memoirs’ is,

“The most widely read of all American autobiographies, ‘Memoirs’ holds the essence of the American way of life.”

This 1798 French edition was translated out of the English edition with notes by J. Castera. Castera’s first edition.
