17th century French carved ivory relief depicting the baptism of Jesus by John the Baptist. The Holy Spirit (in the form of a dove) appears in the upper left. Outstanding detail. Plaque measures about 6-1/2" x 4-3/8", unframed. Unconditionally guaranteed to be authentic and not a later reproduction. One of several early ivories in today's sale.
