17th-18th Century Stone Ghandara Buddha Head
Ca. 17th-18th century Ghandara Buddha head. The large ushnisha protuberance on top of his head symbolizes his high level of spiritual development and typical of the Ghandara style. The Buddha has a peaceful countenance with downcast introspective eyes and a firm brow. His earlobes are stretched long from a youth spent as a prince wearing heavy gold earrings. Behind the Buddha a halo can be seen, symbolising his divinity
