17th C. English Silver Seal of King William III as Mars

Northern Europe, United Kingdom, England, Early Modern Period, ca. 1690 to 1700 CE. A distinguished 94% sterling silver seal fob featuring an ovoid face with the intaglio portrait of King William III of England (1650 to 1702 CE), also known as William of Orange or King William II of Scotland, dressed as Mars, the Roman god of war. Facing right, the royal displays a prominent nose and wears a military helmet and toga. The convex verso of the seal is capped with a dolphin standing on its head as it coils its tail upward, doubling as a handle and suspension loop for the fob. Size: 0.6" L x 0.5" W x 0.6" H (1.5 cm x 1.3 cm x 1.5 cm); silver quality: 94%; weight: 5.2 grams
