17th C. Turkish Bronze Mortar w/ Ribbed Surface

Near East, Turkey, ca. 17th to 18th century CE. A cast-bronze mortar with a squat discoid base, a spherical body which tapers lightly near the shoulder, a corseted neck, and a flared rim surrounding a deep interior cavity. The body is accentuated with twelve fin-shaped ribs that course around the midsection. Fine green and russet patina has formed across most surfaces, and scattered abrasions reveal the original golden-brown bronze color beneath. Size: 4.125" W x 3.375" H (10.5 cm x 8.6 cm).
