Flemish school of the XVII century.
"The pharmacist".
Oil on canvas. Relined.
Measurements: 48 x 47 cm; 65 x 74 cm (frame).
This narrative interior scene takes place in a 17th century Flemish pharmacy with a checkered floor. In the foreground, a couple of apothecaries attends to a new mother holding her newborn child in her arms. In the background, next to a shelf full of albarelos and in the presence of a mortar, a third employee advises a customer on the remedy for her ailment, while a mother with her daughter enters the establishment from the left side. In the Dutch Protestant area, the Baroque was expressed in civil art, in representations of everyday life such as the one we now present.
