[ translate ]

1802/0 1/2 C Reverse of 1802, C-2, B-2, R.3, VF20 PCGS. Ex: Jon D. Lusk Collection. Fuhrman State 2 with faint rust marks between the I and B of LIBERTY. The lowest hair curl is complete on this earlier state example that serves as the primary variety illustration and the State 2 illustration in The Half Cent Handbook, Draped Bust Varieties 1800-1808. Ed Fuhrman's series of six half cent handbooks are indispensable references for the advanced collector as well as the novice half cent enthusiast. Fuhrman takes a refreshing new look at the entire series of non-proof half cents. A small area of surface roughness is evident above the hair ribbon but otherwise the surfaces are exceptionally smooth, showing only trivial, grade-consistent marks. The 1802 half cents are typically found in well-worn condition. PCGS has certified just 27 examples in VF20 or better grades (through XF45), and 183 submissions in grades below VF20. Population: 9 in 20, 18 finer (1/24). Ex: Long Beach Signature (Heritage, 2/2008), lot 2999; Green Tree Collection (Goldberg Auctions, 2/2012), lot 38. From The Jon D. Lusk Collection.
