Raphael Holinshead was a 16th-century English chronicler who is primarily remembered for his work The Chronicles of England, Scotland and Ireland. More commonly known as Holinsheads Chronicles, this work was considered the “first complete printed history of England composed as a continuous narrative” (Taufer). In this work, which was first published in 1577, became a source of inspiration for numerous Shakespearean tales such as King Lear and Macbeth, as well as many of the works of Edmund Spenser. This 1806 edition also includes descriptions of British towns, customs, curiosities, and natural history.
