John Hoyland was an 18th-century English Quaker known for his interest and subsequent study on Gypsies and Gypsy culture. He observed the destitute lifestyle and customs of the gypsies in Northampton, Bedford, and Hertford, but this work also includes reports on gypsies Scotland and Continental Europe. One interesting and notable section of this work includes a description of gypsy language and the differences in the English dialects.
