Daines Barrington was an 18th-century English scholar who published works on a variety of topics including travel and voyages, natural history and animals, and plants. One of Barrington’s best works was his treatise on voyages to the North Pole. Originally published in 1775, ‘Possibility of Reaching the North Pole’ was written in response to Constantine Phipps North Pole voyage in 1773. This 1818 edition features a curious question/answer appendix, with questions regarding findings and discoveries on voyages including stories from whalers and discussions on floating ice!
