The National Constituent Assembly was a 1789 assembly that met during the French Revolution which was held to discuss, among other things, the abolition of feudalism and establish a legislative assembly in France. Curiously, one of the outcomes of the assembly was that the ‘Third Estate’, a governing body present in the assembly, thought themselves to be an equal authority with King Louis XVI.

This particular example is notable for being owned by Roland Bonaparte, nephew of the great Napoleon Bonaparte!
