Jules Dumont D’Urville was a 19th-century French explorer who is best known for his voyages in the South Pacific and Antarctica. He was responsible for naming several new species of plants, as well as creating maps of islands he explored.
The complete works of D’Urville’s voyages were published in various languages following his death, including this French edition. This set is beautifully illustrated with views of plants, landscapes, native people to New Zealand and Tasmania, animals, shipwrecks, Tahitian tribal dances, Asian architecture and ruins, as well as a folding map of the World and of the Pacific Ocean.
