1835 1ed History of the Romish Inquisition Catholic
1835 1ed History of the Romish Inquisition Catholic Church Murder Massacre Italy
‘A History of the Romish Inquisition’ is a compilation written to the American people to protest against the Roman Catholic Church by presenting, “astounding, blood-chilling facts, in regard to the most horrible institution which has ever blackened the pages of history.” This history of the Spanish Inquisition was an attempt to push back against Roman Catholicism, particularly the church in Rome and the Pope, who the compiler, Ells, claimed the very institution of the Church in Rome was against freedom.
In this 1835 first edition Ells brings together stories of the rise of Catholicism with Constantine and the Church of Rome with events of the Inquisition including murders, families burned at the stake, massacres, imprisonments, Goa and Macerata inquisitions, and the eventual liberation of prisoners and their stories.
