Samuel Parker was an American preacher who was a missionary to remote Native American Indian tribes. Parker led an exploration voyage with the intent of discovering the views of native tribes, specifically their views toward Christianity. He kept a journal detailing the events of the expedition which was later published.

The book includes vocabulary of various Indian languages, geology and geography of the American west, as well as notes on Mormons, natural history, and a description of Honolulu and Hawaii.

This example was owned by Rev Harvey Freeman Johnson Scribner, a notably Wesleyan abolitionist in 19th-century New Hampshire.
