1849 Honore Daumier French Political Cartoon

This Honoré Daumier (1808-1879) French political satire cartoon is an original sheet from the September 5th, 1849 issue of the French humor magazine "Le Charivari". The image shows one man chugging from a bottle, while his friend tries to stop him, and the caption reads: "N'te dépêche pas tant Lapincheux y n'ont pas encore rétabli l'impôt sur les boissons" ((No need to hurry Lapincheux! They haven't restored the taxes on drinks yet) It refers to an unpopular proposal by the governing bodies to tax alcoholic beverages. The matted and framed page measures 21.5" tall X 16" across.
