1849-O $10 XF45 PCGS. Variety 3. The 1849-O is a much better New Orleans issue. The mintage is only 23,900 pieces, less than 4% of the production of its Philadelphia cousin. Despite the low mintage, two die pairs exist, Variety 2 without a shield ring, and the rarer Variety 3, with a shield ring atop the second vertical stripe. Variety 1, Winter's Doubled Date, turned out to be strike doubling. The present example is sharper than expected and exhibits ample luster along with golden-brown color and a few thin obverse marks.
