Samuel Griswold Goodrich was an American author, better known under the pseudonym Peter Parley. Goodrich wrote a number of historical works – works on United States history, natural history, and history of animals. However, he also wrote a lesser known work on the history of Asia.

‘Lights and Shadows of Asiatic History’ is a 19th-century account of the history of the most iconic Asian cultures and peoples. He describes Babylon, Persia, Jews in Israel, China, Iran, Turks and many others.
