John Lizars was a 19th-century Scottish surgeon who published various illustrated works on human anatomy, but none more important than this – “Practical Observations on the Use and Abuse of Tobacco”. This work was one of the first works to recognize the dangers and damage that tobacco causes as well as its addictive nature. Illustrated with three full-page engravings depicting the destructive nature of tobacco!
This 1867 edition is paired with James Miller’s treatise on alcohol. In it, Miller describes the horrors of alcoholism as well as the health risks associated with alcohol abuse.
