Bayard Taylor was a 19th-century travel writer whose abundant notes and reports have been referenced for decades since the mid-1800s. Taylor’s writings have even been quoted by politicians and authors who supported his racial discriminatory views.
Bayard Taylor published his collection of New York Tribune Letters as a book titled ‘Colorado’ in 1867. In his letters Taylor recounts his travels through Colorado touching on Nebraska, Arkansas, and Idaho, while describing the scenes, places, and people of the mining towns dotted all along the mountain range of the Rockies. It was an enormous success that went on to attract thousands to the mining regions of Colorado and established Colorado as a haven for tourists.
