1867 Hong Kong Mint Queen Victoria 'City Hall' medallic silver Dollar graded AU DETAILS by NGC. Obverse: left facing portrait of Queen Victoria wearing a diadem by Leonard Charles Wyon with 'VICTORIA' above and 'QUEEN' below. Reverse: 'HONG KONG CITY HALL FOUNDATION STONE LAID BY H · E SIR R · G · MACDONNELL C · B 23RD FEBRUARY 1867. A HERMITTE ARCHT'. Edge: plain. Grade: AU DETAILS ENVIRONMENT. Packaging: NGC holder (#2912515-002). These scarce medals were given to attendees of the 1867 foundation stone laying ceremony for the crown colony of Hong Kong's first City Hall, completed and opened in 1869. The reverse features a commemorative inscription that notes the then Governor of Hong Kong (Sir Richard Graves MacDonnell) and the building's architect (Achille-Antoine Hermitte). The obverse uses the same dies as the contemporary Hong Kong Dollar, struck between 1866 and 1868.
