Springfield modified 1873 "Officer's Sporting Rifle" trapdoor rifle, .40.65 caliber marked at rear barrel top, 28.75" barrel without proof marks, adjustable rear sight, lacking front sight, the lock marked "Model 1873 over eagles and arrows over U.S.," retains case hardened coloring, lockplate with "U.S. Springfield 1873" on three lines in front of eagle, checkering at hammer thumb area, outline of oval inspection mark at left stock, checkering at wrist and handhold area of stock, buttplate with cleaning tool port and U.S. at upper tang, overall in excellent condition, SN 37XX (see Flayderman's, page 583) Start Price: $800.00
