1878 $1 Dollar, Judd-1554, Pollock-1733, R.7, PR63 NGC. Designed by Charles Barber, the head of Liberty is large and faces left with IN GOD WE TRUST at the top and the date below, similar to the pattern fifty dollar gold pieces from 1877. The reverse has a spread-winged eagle with E PLURIBUS UNUM in Gothic lettering above. UNITED STATES OF AMERICA is at the top and ONE DOLLAR on the bottom rim. The Pollock subvariety of Judd-1554 with star 13 close to the curl and the upright of the B in PLURIBUS beneath the right foot of the second T in STATES. Struck in silver with a reeded edge. This well struck specimen appears void of hairlines and is deeply patinated forest-green and olive-gray. Golden-brown and plum-red shades emerge on the reverse when it is rotated beneath a light.
