1881 5C
1881 5C MS65 PCGS. CAC. Bold design motifs on satiny nickel-gray surfaces are accented with delicate gold toning on this well-preserved Type Two Shield nickel. The 1881 issue produced just 68,800 commercial pieces, and Mint State examples at PCGS total only 151 examples. This Gem Uncirculated Shield nickel generates an impressive cartwheel effect, particularly on the obverse with the vertical and horizontal lines of the shield. A loupe reveals minor marks that define the grade, but do not impact the overall quality of this example, which is endorsed by CAC. Housed in a first-generation PCGS holder.
