1893 S$1

[ translate ]

1893 $1 MS65 PCGS. VAM-2. The Philadelphia Mint struck millions of Morgan dollars every year through 1891. But the 1892 Philly mintage barely exceeded a million pieces, and the 1893 mintage dropped below 400,000 pieces. One reason for diminished production was the repeal of the Sherman Silver Purchase Act on August 7, 1893, to stop depletion of U.S. gold reserves. A better date in all grades, the 1893 is desirable as a Gem. This lustrous and brilliant coin displays a good strike and exceptionally smooth surfaces.
