Still life with game with monogram A.G.F. on the game bag (Adriaan Gryef Fecit)
The monogram is identical to known monograms of this painter, particularly the shape of the A and G.
This painting is definitely of the time; it can be attributed to Adriaan Gryef with certitude, it is clearly in his style and his scale of colors, the monogram is aucthtic.
(This appraisal will be part of the sale - I was unable to discern what was the game bag).
Measurements:
Painting 16 inches x 23 inches
Frame 23.5 inches x 30 inches
More about the artist:
Adriaen de Gryef (also Grijef), Flemish painter. He was the son and pupil of the Dutch still-life painter Jacques de Claeuw (active 1642-1676, also called Grief). His first dated painting is from 1675, the last from 1722. He married in 1689 in Antwerp. In 1690, he resided in Brussels, then returned to Antwerp in 1694.
Gryef is famous for the creation of small pictures with picturesque subjects featuring animals, particularly hunting scenes, in outdoor landscapes adorned with trees and flowers. His paintings often focused exclusively on dead game scenes or huntsmen with dogs, with the background becoming merely a vehicle for these highly specialized still-lifes.

Condition: The painting and frame are overall in poor pre-owned condition, the painting was relined a long time ago with the wax process, the wax has seeped through the old canvas that has a lot of cracking going on, the painting was basically just dark, I had a conserver clean off the top layer but he did not want to go further than that to not disturb the original pigments, he also did not varnish the painting with shiny varnish that is often times used to hide flaws, that means the canvas appears dry and reddish (from the wax), the piece is definitely very old, the frame is old too but has issues with the surface finish, this is not for the faint of heart
