Jean Baptiste Baillon III (French d. 1772), gilt bronze Louis XVI cartel clock, third quarter of the 18th century, surmounted by an urn, having an enamel dial with Roman numerals, and laurel swags, signed to the dial, the mechanism engraved J. B. Baillon" and "No. 4126". Note: The celebrated horologist Jean-Baptiste Baillon is recorded as being a maitre in 1727, clockmaker to Queen Marie Leczinska, and in 1751 he was appointed Court clockmaker to Marie Antoinette. Provenance: Property from the estate of Arnold Neustadter, inventor of the Rolodex. Approximate dimensions: h. 32", w. 14", d. 4. 5".
Condition Report: Some wear to gilding, some cracks to face with small chips at keyholes, no apparent cracks to glass, untested - would recommend professional servicing, key is present.
