The caption below reads in full: 'A View of the City of Boston, the Capital of New England, in North America. Drawn on the spot by his Excellency Governor Pownall.' Creased and toned, chipping and a few small tears to the margin, adhesive residue. Thomas Pownall (1722 - 1805) Colonial Governor of Massachusetts who led an expedition to Penobscot to block French attacks during the French and Indian War, considered one of the few British colonial governors sympathetic to the American cause.
