18th C. French Provincial Carved Walnut Dough Bin

In two parts: The upper section with an oblong hinged top with scalloped edge, opening to a canted compartment. The front panel adorned with three ornately carved vignettes, including musical instruments, a bowl with fruit and an artist's palette. The lower frame section with conforming scalloped edge above a carved and shaped apron centering carved emblems of the harvest, a crossed scythe and flail, raised on turned legs, joined by an carved shaped box stretcher with wheat and vine decoration, terminating in scrolled feet.
